What I Learned From This Project
Oompa Siesta is one of my 2nd year first term projects, in which we worked as a team of 4 (Mehmet Kala, İdil Fırat, Öykü Çise Çancı, Defne Meriç Salman).
Creating this portable outdoors resting unit helped me develop skills in:
- Ergonomically designing for a sitting unit.
- Creating custom moving mechanisms for the spesific needs of our design.
- Technical 3D modelling for the use of commonly available sources such as plywood and standardized Nuts and Bolts.
- Creating technical drawings and exploded views from CAD models.
- Prototyping with 3D printing and hand crafting processes.
- Applying Anthropometric measures to Digital and Paper Sketching.
When I Look Back To Mixio
- Designing such a product helped me better understand how a product for outdoors usage should be.
- I think it was a great experience to create such a product people can use to spend quality outdoors time with their loved ones or by themselves.
- I think our design has a lot of space for improvement; moving mechanisms could refined, structural stability could be improved.
Looking back at a design and being able to see what can be done better always is a great part of this process.
